“An artist never makes mistakes, never erase anything…” was and is a motto that she lives by, this has become the focal point of her work. She uses mixed media (predominantly oil, acrylic, and spray paint) on large canvases, her signature size being 200 x 180cm, and sarcastically combines heavy Arabic poetic versus with fun cartoon personas to get a specific message of hope across.
Ms. Malhas is mostly inspired by seeing the good in every otherwise morbid situation. The calligraphy and paint in her work bleed symbolizing an initial state of grief, sorrow, and pain. The pieces are messy and sometimes incomplete, just like life. The contrasting blissful characters and bright colors, which at first glance seem to be out of place, depict the light at the end of every tunnel, a necessity to pull through and never give up - a ‘somewhere over the rainbow’ state of euphoria.
